A Word from OUR President ...

Dear Friends and Partners:

As most of you know, TWAW Executive Director Tim Tam has begun his sabbatical. We are confident this process will reveal God’s vision for our future; our Board looks forward to regular updates from Tim and we encourage you to continue to lift him up in prayer along with us.

We are thankful that Mollie Swafford is stepping in as Acting Executive Director while Tim is away as she brings great leadership and knowledge to our operations. Jo Cole is training our newest team member, Dyann Folkner, and as Dyann gets more familiar with our office Jo will take on more of Mollie’s previous duties as her support. We are excited to expand our support services and financial network to undergird the future growth for TWAW - thank you for covering all of our staff in prayer!

Ministry in 2016 will finish strong and Kenny Logan & Jose Valencia are on the ground in Belize making preparation.
  • FPC, Midland, TX will return to the El Progresso area in November;
  • Discovery Church, Hickory, NC will continue their work alongside Exodus & First
    Stone Ministries in Belize City;
  • Our annual Christmas Project will celebrate Christmas with our partners Belize style!
  • We’re also talking to new partners about potential vision trips.

Many of you are planning your trips for 2017 already! (If you’re a team leader and you haven’t contacted us about your summer plans yet, we hope you’ll do so soon.) We are booked up through Spring Break with groups from all over the US who will catch up with friends and partners and develop new relationships. Susie Mauldin is settling in as a long-term missionary working with Belize Hospice and Lonnie & Cindy Wall are making their plans to move to the Belmopan area in January to oversee the building of Gomer House. Our Redemptive Recycling program continues under Tim Hagen’s leadership and we’ve got containers lined up for shipment soon.

Our Board has taken serious steps toward implementing policies and procedures for our governance and we are poised to expand TWAW activities in 2017 with vigor. There’s a lot to thank God for during this season! On behalf of the Board please know how grateful we are for your partnership - I hope you’ll take a moment to read the enclosed and consider becoming a part of our Team 100 program as well.

Law Enforcement Trip, and More

Hello Friends,

Summer teams have been stacked up in back-to-back. We have a small break of four days but start again this weekend with teams from Pennsylvania and North Carolina.Rushing to get this out while it is still Wednesday

Kenny just finish up the law enforcement trip: Last week a group from New Mexico and South Carolina worked with the Belmopan Police Department sharing their faith in Christ and providing training which included defensive tactics (Krav Maga)), first aid/CPR, and firearms. The team also worked with local police on a home of one of the officers, building walls in the home while helping the officer build relationships with his neighbors.

Momentum is building. They are asking for training in additional districts. Do you have law enforcement people in your church that can be involved in next years trip? Please send me their contacting information.

Update on Dallan from geneday@aol.com: To all ... Just went for the first follow up after surgery for Dallan. Dr. Higley said he is doing very well. This is a copy of the x ray of his jaw. The thing that looks like a bicycle chain on the right is the metal bar that is holding his mouth in place until they can put in the prosthesis. Please pray he is very careful and doesn't fall or take a blow to the face of any kind. That bar is very near his brain.

The metal on the left is brackets they put on his teeth to hold rubber bands to keep his mouth almost closed and in place.

The next 90 days are going to be a challenge waiting for the prosthesis. Please continue to pray for God's provision and give Him praise and thanks for ALL HE has done on Dallan's behalf. We still need to raise some more money to pay for the prosthesis. It is truly a blessing for all of us involved to witness God's hand in all of this. There are so many people involved in so many areas and God has brought us all together for His purpose and His child. When you think of where he was just two months ago it truly is a miracle. THANK YOU JESUS!!!

Mission trip opportunities this fall at FPC-Midland include Belize

• Last chance to sign up

1st Presbyterian Church-Midland has two mission trip opportunities coming this Fall. Please contact Pastor Walter by July 7 if you are interested in either of these trips.

Uganda: Team will work with Dr. Bartha and the different ministries he is involved in, including clinics, schools, orphanages, and churches. Approximate dates: October 13-24.

Belize: Team will return to the village of El Progresso to continue partnering in ministry with our friends there. Specific projects will be identified once the team is formed. Early-mid November, approximately 1 week.

Hopeful News

We have been praying and waiting on finding help for Dallan, a young man with a serious jaw problem.

Many doctors have offered their services, hospitals have offered their facilities, the trick has been to find a doctor and a hospital at the same location.

Our hope has been that the procedure can be done at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock Texas…..the first to respond to our appeal. I just received a call that was very encouraging. It seems all the necessary parties are aware of the situation but the approval process is complicated.

I was told that things are looking in our favor but that I still need to allow two more days for necessary communications to take place and approval to be confirmed.

Please help me pray this one to completion.

Back from Cuba

I haven't yet figured out a good way to communicate this trip. For now I will just report ...
• Water filters were delivered to areas plagued with cholera. This effort supported the work of the local church and will save lives.
• Now we need to see how we can widen the door. Our effort was a drop in the bucket.
• Because of the solid relationship between Cuba and Belize we pray that Belize may become the staging point for more Christian aid to Cuba.

A Timely Gift

A short while back we were given the gift of property in Southern Belize to sell and the proceeds to go to two children's homes, Marla’s House of Hope in Belize and Valley of Angels in Guatemala. Thanks for praying that through with us. And have a look at the touching thank-you note below.

Dear Mollie,
Peace!
I am writing to you to personally thank you for your overwhelmingly generous support. While I don't have the words to thank you enough, I want to give you a little context to help you see how much this means to me and Valley.

This morning I was called to go to the public hospital in Guatemala called San Juan … One of our children is there … When I arrived I found her in a large room with 40 other children, in a small dirty bed all alone hooked up to an intravenous, burning with fever, and miserable. She hadn't slept or eaten all night …I was looking around at all the poor children who were there. I was thinking what an awful place but at the same time I am grateful … I am truly grateful that we have amazing supporters who make it possible for us to help these children who have no-one … Your gift not only enables us to provide a place to live, food to eat, education, the faith but the ability to communicate love to them. To let them know they are loved and they are lovable and they are worth it.

So today was a tough day, most of all for Monica, but thanks to you she felt loved and smiled and played puzzles in her bed and hopefully will be well enough next week to come back to valley and continue her year studying with us.

[Fr Della Penna shared that his budget had been cut by $30K USD due to lack of funding; the check TWAW sent on behalf of our generous land-donor was just over $31K USD.]

Pastor Rita Flowers of Alpha and Omega children's church will be missed by us, throngs of children, and her innumerable dogs.

Solar power and Water …… Fundraiser May 15 in Clovis, New Mexico

It's hard to believe it's been just over 15 months since Leonie and all the kids moved in to their new home. Moving towards sustainability is a multi-pronged effort. Already in motion … growing food (veggies, chickens, etc.) on the land.

Now to lower expenses for the home our friend Matt Ware has put together a great evening, May 15, to help raise funds for solar panels and a cistern system for water catchment. This will make a HUGE difference for operating expenses of the new larger home! The event hopes to meet a matching grant we've received of $40,000 USD.
