Day 1

Today, Sunday, was the first day for the whole team to go to El Progresso where we will be building a preachers home all week and building relationships with the wonderful people of the village. When we arrive at the village, the people of the church welcomed us with open arms and greetings. The children speak both English and Spanish well and we listened to songs in Spanish that the kids sang.
After church this morning, we had a while of free time and decided to visit the Mayan ruins.
We met a lady that works with women that have gone through domestic violence or have gone through life threatening diseases. The women are In a sowing group where they make things such as satchels, bags, ties, and jewelry to have a learned skill for the women that have gone through a lot. A pastor we met shared his story to us about being called into ministry, quitting his high paid job to preach in a church of 6. The church has grown over the past 5 years and now teach groups of high school students welding and wood shopping. They have no tools but they know that God will provide and work wonders in their church.
