Day 2
Today, Monday, we woke up around 6 and ate a breakfast that consisted of tortillas, beans (which we have every meal), omelets, banana bread, and pineapple juice. Next, we made our way to the village of El Progresso and started our building project. Today was a national holiday in Belize called Baron Bliss day, which meant all of the kids were out of school. We helped them make kites and they ran around and played in the field. The kids also played on the bounce house and slipping slide.
The weather today was very hot with a high of 91 and a low of 66. There was only a little bit of rain. Half of our team played with the children today, while the other half of us worked on the house. The house is going to be for a local preacher and his family which consists of his wife and seven kids. By the end of the day, our team had completed the framing on the house along with a 5 feet deep hole for the septic tank. We are all very proud of our progress!
The second half of us were at the school having a blast with the children. The bounce house was very popular among the children along with the go pros! The women of the village cooked lunch for everyone which was delicious. They cooked enchiladas, tostadas, and BBQ chicken. We formed great relationships with all of the children. They are all so excited for us to be here with them. We returned back to San Ignacio around 5:30 after a hard day of trabajando (working).
Tonight for dinner we ate rice, pork, salad, and homemade REALLY REALLY good biscuits (if you can't tell we love the food here). We all gathered around in a circle, sang, and shared our favorite part of the day and where we saw God working in our lives today.
